Antonio Avenoso ETSC Executive Director said:“We warmly welcome today’s commitment to a long term target to tackle deaths and, for the first time, serious injuries on EU roads. But if the EU is serious about meeting this goal, meaningful measures are needed now. EU vehicle safety standards have not been updated since 2009 despite rapid advances in technology that can help drivers keep within speed limits and avoid collisions. Every day of delay will lead to more unnecessary deaths and serious injuries on our roads.”

Jeannot Mersch, FEVR president: “Together with our friends from ETSC who initiated the “Let’sGo” campaign we worked hard to get this target which now finally is set. I remember well knocking at the doors of the MEP’s in Brussels and Strasburg, with some being not at all well receiving us. Also meeting Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker together with Antonio and Tangy, a brain injured Road Traffic Victim as well as Commissioner Violeta Bulc to convince all about this urgent needed target to show that we don’t forget all these victims.”
