18/02/2020Again no real step Forward to Vision Zero
Brussels4.4.19 The European Commission has published the road figures. It’s the fifth year in a row that hardly any progress has been made. ETSC press release "“the deaths of 70 people every day or 500 people every week on EU roads cannot be ignored. It is not fake news. And that’s especially true for the thousands of families, friends and co-workers affected by road deaths and serious injuries. The issue must be given the political priority it deserves.”" Antonio Avenosos ETSC
EC press release Even a reduction of 1% of fatalities cannot make us happy, and even trying to reduce the people killed and seriously injured on EU roads by half means that we still will have to deplore more than 10.000 fatalities and over 50.000 serious injuries. Something that we as road victims cannot accept.
Jeannot Mersch, FEVR president said:
"Our only and final goal can only be the Vision Zero, reaching the target of zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2050, and much more Needs to be done for the safety of vulnerable road users and elderly who are a groving number in the statistics "

Some good results & some less good ones

reducing speed is an effective measure especially for vulnerable road users
