04/02/2022Today, October 28, 2021, the UN / WHO Global Plan for Road Safety that includes the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 has been officially launched.
It aims to improve global road safety, setting the goal of reducing at least 50% of road fatalities and injuries by 2030 as a kind of intermediate step towards Vision Zero by 2050. FEVR strongly supports the Global Plan believing that all member organizations can make a difference by offering their incomparable support towards achieving the overall plan.
FEVR together with all the associations of road victims must raise their voices towards the institutions, leading them to put every possible effort in rethinking and redesigning the entire concept of traffic towards the achievement of the objective.
The objectives include, but are not limited to, the following elements:
• Speed reduction: eg. introducing limits of 30 km / h in situations where vehicles and pedestrians coexist.
• Adopt safer infrastructures: road infrastructures must guarantee a high level of safety
• Engage the institutions: all the necessary resources must be in place, political and financial
• Implement sustainable mobility: move from a private car to modern and multimodal transport
Road victim organizations are essential to campaign and convey this message.
