David is a survivor of a lorry crash in which both his mother and father were killed. His mother was killed a week before his 7th birthday and his father a couple of days afterwards. David sustained two broken legs. He has first-hand experience with the life-changing impact dangerous driving causes. This experience has given him a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help other victims of crashes.
He was also involved in a separate hit and run whilst cycling home from work in 2012. He was cut off by a lorry at a junction and his bicycle went underneath the lorry. The police were unable to track down the vehicle, so David took the investigation into his own hands. He found the company and the driver, who was fined and given points on his license.
Since 2018, he has been Trustee of RoadPeace, a UK based, pioneering victim-centred charity. He is now vice-chair and safeguarding lead for this national organisation, established in 1992. He believes more survivors and victims’ families should have access to wellbeing and resilience support and assistance with navigating the justice system. He is a keen advocate of the global Vision Zero road safety campaign. David is an experienced political and campaign organiser. He has managed multi-level teams in Campaign Management, Senior Management, Head of Department and Director roles.
David has been elected to the Board of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims as the RoadPeace (UK) delegate. He hopes to bring his personal and professional experience to instigate positive change: reducing road crime and support survivors and crash victim families. He has been appointed the Spokesperson for FEVR and contributed to bringing World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR) back into the FEVR fold. Word Day of Remembrance is a high-profile, United Nations and World Health Organization recognised event that was initiated by Brigitte Chaudhry MBE, (RoadPeace Founder and former FEVR President) and tirelessly championed by FEVR since 1995. On 26th October 2005, the World Day was adopted, unanimously, by the UN General Assembly as “the appropriate acknowledgement for victims of road traffic crashes and their families”.
David is a wellbeing and resilience coach and a motivational speaker. He brings a wealth of coaching, fundraising, political, safeguarding, policy, voluntary and RoadPeace board experience to FEVR.
David is a keen cyclist, indoor rock climber, kayaker and paddleboarder. He enjoys meditation, travel, theatre, reading, writing, learning and being in nature.
