Robert Štaba
Robert Štaba is the initiator, founder and President of the Varna Pot Institute. Safe mobility is an important element in the content of his professional work and personal life path.
After completing a degree in transport technology, his expertise in safe mobility has been produced in the public administration sector, corporations, the private sector and NGOs. Through a series of operational and managerial functions in the Police, Ministry of the Interior, Council for Road Traffic Prevention and Education (predecessor of the Agency for Traffic Safety), Car Moto Association of Slovenia, Varna Pot Institute, he shares the acquired expertise and managerial experience in the domestic and international mobility field.
He has authored papers and lectured at numerous international and national congresses related to safe or sustainable mobility. He can be found together with teachers in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, with people affected by the consequences of the worst road crashes, in international expert groups or working bodies, in media discussions, as well as in expert meetings and debates at the highest international level. He is active at national and international level in the field of advocacy and the rights of victims of road crashes.
In Slovenia, he has been the leader of several European and other international projects in the field of safe mobility.
Robert Štaba is the recipient of the 2018 Ljubljana City Prize. At the time of the award ceremony, the following was said about him:
"Ten years ago, the humanist and internationally renowned expert in the field of safe mobility founded the Varna Pot institute for assistance and support to victims of traffic crashes. Under his leadership, the institute has been a constructive and well-intentioned partner of the Municipality of Ljubljana, contributing visibly to traffic safety in our city: psychosocial assistance has been offered and facilitated to more than 3,500 people who have been affected by traffic accidents, and its preventive programmes have raised awareness of safe mobility, especially among children and young people. The award winner's dedicated work is also echoed in various international projects, which led to his election as Vice-President of the European Association of Road Accident Victims." In his free time, he enjoys being in touch with nature, his family, his dog and honest, simple and warm-hearted people.
